Imperial animal hospital. The Animal Medical Center of New York was founded by Ellin Prince Speyer in 1902. In 1906, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Speyer was a tireless advocate for animal welfare and worked on many causes including the improvement of health care for animals. Her wife, Leonora, was also an award-winning poet, winning a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1927. She also helped to establish the Women’s Auxiliary of the ASPCA.
